Transforming Fishery Operations: The Impact of Open-Source Software by Cyclomax International

In the realm of Sri Lanka’s fishery industry, efficiency and modernization are crucial for sustainable growth. Cyclomax International, a leader in IT solutions, has revolutionized fishery harbor operations with its innovative open-source software. This software, developed in collaboration with the Ceylon Fishery Harbors Corporation (CHFC), marks a significant milestone in public sector technology adoption.

Digital Transformation in Fishery Operations

The CHFC, established in 1972, plays a pivotal role in enhancing fishery-harbor services across Sri Lanka. In pursuit of modernization, CHFC embarked on the Digital Software Harbour Program in March 2016. This initiative aimed to streamline operations and enhance efficiency through advanced technology solutions.

Introduction of Open-Source Innovation

Cyclomax International introduced a pioneering open-source software tailored for managing fishery harbor operations and automating inventory accounts. This software, deployed island-wide, provided real-time visibility into daily transactions and harbor activities. Key functionalities included:

Real-Time Transaction Monitoring: Enables immediate access to transaction data and harbor operations.

Employee Information Management: Enhances operational efficiency by centralizing employee data management.

Safety and Notification System: Notifies boat owners instantly via mobile notifications upon fueling at harbors, ensuring operational transparency and safety.

Achieving Operational Excellence

Within three months of implementation, the open-source software yielded remarkable results. Island-wide automation and optimization of inventory accounts led to a substantial increase in efficiency. Reports from national newspapers highlighted a staggering Rs. 7 million profit recorded by the CHFC, attributed to enhanced system automation and operational optimization facilitated by Cyclomax’s software.

Recognition and Future Prospects

The success of the Digital Software Harbour Program underscores CHFC’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in fishery operations. Cyclomax International’s collaboration with CHFC not only modernized operations but also positioned Sri Lanka’s fishery industry competitively on a regional scale.

The transformative impact of our Open-source Software was highlighted in a recent article by “Divaina (දිවයින)”  showcasing how the CHFC is leading the way in digital transformation.

And also, Innovative strides of our Open-source Software were recently featured in a “Dinamina (දිනමිණ)” article, demonstrating how the CHFC is at the forefront of digital transformation.

Conclusion

The implementation of open-source software by Cyclomax International at CHFC stands as a testament to the transformative power of technology in public sector modernization. As we look to the future, this collaboration sets a precedent for leveraging IT solutions to achieve sustainable growth and operational excellence in Sri Lanka’s fishery sector.
